Mayor
David Gilgenberg II was elected to serve the
City of Burbank in 2025. A lifelong Burbank resident, Gilgenberg
graduated from Reavis High School and immediately went to work as a paid
on-call firefighter in 1991. After working for his community for years,
he became a full-time firefighter/paramedic in 1994. Gilgenberg remained
dedicated to his work and rose through the ranks of the Burbank Fire
Department throughout his 32 years of service, earning a master’s degree
in homeland security and fire service management and becoming Fire
Chief. As a firefighter he also served on the Firefighters Pension Board and the Illinois Urban Search and Rescue Team, deploying to Louisiana to assist in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. As Chief, he modernized the ambulance fleets, updated gear, radios, and department policies and procedures, and served as an active member of the Oak Lawn Regional Emergency Communications Board, which manages 911 communications for police and fire agencies in the area. Committed to helping others, Mayor Gilgenberg has volunteered at first aid tents to assist with medical needs of walkers at Avon Breast Cancer walks, and he has served on the Board of the Burbank Chamber of Commerce to help support local businesses. He most recently served the public in his role as Burbank’s City Clerk and in his role as City Insurance Coordinator where he worked to get the best prices for employees’ health insurance, workman's compensation, and liavility insurance for the City. Mayor Gilgenberg raised his children David and Savannah (also Reavis graduates) in Burbank and wants to ensure the city remains a great place for others to raise their families as well. He prides himself on working with all local bodies of government, including the Burbank Park District, Prairie Trails Public Library, Stickney Township, and local school districts. Mayor Gilgenberg is committed to building on the successes of the previous administration by further improving public safety and the efficiency of government services through modernization.
