The City of Burbank is committed to prioritizing the
safety and well-being of all residents. Alderwoman Barb Gagle and Fire Chief Marty
Kreil are sponsoring the program to better serve the residents and community of
Burbank. The Burbank Fire and Police Department are working together to
introduce our Occupant with Autism Program.
The Occupant with Autism Program has been designed to notify first responders
that a resident or a vehicle’s occupant may contain the presence of an
individual with autism. Occupant with Autism is aimed at providing crucial
information to emergency responders during response calls.
This program utilizes the placement of decals and a registration in the 911
emergency system to inform first responders about individuals with autism
residing in a home or car. This program offers free decals to Burbank residents.
The decals can be affixed near the front door of residences, or back driver side
window of a car, alerting first responders to the presence of an occupant with
autism.
By recognizing the decal, fire and police personnel can adjust their approach to
an incident accordingly, understanding that the individual may not communicate,
respond to verbal commands, or be aware of potential dangers.
If a resident does not prefer to display the decals, but still wishes to
participate in the program, they can fill out the form provided and the City of
Burbank will then have their address or license plate flagged in our 911
emergency system.
This free and voluntary program is designed to provide peace of mind to our
residents.
