Paid On Call Fire Fighters

What are Paid On Call Firefighters?

Paid On Call Firefighters, or P.O.C's as they are commonly called, function in much the same capacity as full-time career firefighters by responding to calls related to fire, medical, and other emergencies. As the name implies, being a Paid On Call Firefighter affords members the opportunity to be compensated for time spent on calls. Additionally, POC's are also paid for training. Paid On Call Firefighters can, after progressing through various levels of training, function as “shift relief” firefighters. In this capacity, POC's work 12 or 24-hour shifts as a paid firefighter at one of our two stations.
